A Stress Free Kids Birthday Party

Organizing a kids birthday party should not that be stressful for you for as long as you will know what to do. To help parents organize simple yet successful birthday parties for their kids, here are some tips for you:

1. Determine the theme. The theme of the party will greatly depend on the age of the child. For one year olds, it is best to have a theme that everyone can relate to. In short, you can come up with a general theme such as your kid's favorite character or TV show and the like. For older kids, you can ask them what they want for their party. If they have not decided yet, suggest kiddie themes such as Harry Potter theme, Pirates theme or Cowboys' theme for the boys. For the girls, you can suggest Fairy theme or Princess theme. Once you were able to come up with the theme, the rest of the steps will follow.

2. Estimate how many people, including kids, in your guest list. This is the next best thing to do after the theme. You can start with the immediate family members, cousins, uncles and aunties, grandparents, Godparents. Then, the friends of your child in the neighborhood and his or her classmates if he or she is already in school. Knowing how many people will be attending will give you an idea how big the party that you need to prepare is.

3. Find a fitting venue. For some parents, their home is the most fitting venue for small parties. But if there will be many guests, it is best to find a location where everybody can move freely. You can consider the nearby theme park or a playhouse inside a mall for the location. In choosing a venue, always take note of the convenience of the attendees, wherein majority of which is kids.

4. Set the time. Most birthday parties are usually set in the afternoon when everybody has rested. But, depending on the availability of your guests as well as of the venue, you can schedule it earlier, like before lunchtime or during lunch itself.

5. Do the invitation and send it in advance. You can make your own invitations that bear the motif of the theme or you can buy ready-made ones from craft stores. The most important thing is that you have sent it in advance so they the parents of the attendees can arrange their schedules.

6. Call parents of the children to be invited. This is also one good way of knowing how many attendees will be there and if there are necessary preparations for the child guest.

7. List down the foods you can prepare. Depending on the number of guests, you can make a tentative list of the foods to be prepared. In the menu, make sure to make the selections children-friendly.

8. Make a list of supplies and decorations needed. This is also important so you won't have to cram when the day comes. If possible, decorate the venue a day ahead so you won't have to worry about it when the date comes.

9. Create a program flow. Young attendees during kids birthday parties can be unruly. To maintain orderliness, try to come up with a program so they will know what to do.

Easy Ways to Make Money through School Fund Raising

Did you know that school fund raising brings big business to many companies? This is because schools purchase the supplies they need for fund raising in large quantities. The company can easily give a discount because they sell many products at one time. School fund raising is also becoming an important part of school life because it offers schools different ways of fundraising the money they need for the equipment and trips.

Schools are constantly on the lookout for fundraising ideas for their next school fundraiser. They have to be creative to come up with unique ideas so that people will attend the fundraiser and contribute to the cause. Every season of the year brings school fund raising events and some are easier for coming up with fundraising ideas than other groups.

Halloween, for example, provides schools with fund raising ideas in the form of a haunted house or a costume ball. This type of school fundraiser needs many volunteers and is best for middle schools and high schools. An idea for an elementary school fundraiser for Halloween could include a Halloween party where the children have an opportunity to take part in games where they win prizes.

Often school fund raising takes the form of selling items that people need or want to buy. Selling chocolate at Easter, for example, always goes over well as a school fundraiser. Instead of purchasing large amounts of chocolate in hopes it will sell, most schools take orders. The company supplying the chocolate for the fundraiser offers a discounted price along with specials for orders of a certain quantity. They also supply prizes if the school wishes to award prizes for the person who sells the most.

Read-a-thons are a specialty for school fund raising. Parents avidly support this type of school fundraiser as it does promote a school activity while raising funds for other programs. Students really get into this type of fundraiser as they compete with the other classes in the school. The principal sometimes sweetens the pot by offering an incentive for the success of the fundraiser, such as offering to shave his beard or come to school dressed in pajamas.

School fund raising is a competitive field, and needs some good ideas.

Children and Exercise

If you have a child of 6 to 8 years old that wants to start exercising and lifting weights, you may find yourself wondering what you should do.  While some think it is perfectly fine for children to exercise, others think differently.

The long and short of it is that yes, it is beneficial for your child to partake in exercise or a weight training regimen although there are a few things that you should keep in mind once this starts to happen.

No matter how you look at it, children are not miniature adults and therefore you cannot use the same methods with growing children that you can use with adults, as children are different from adults emotionally, anatomically, and physiologically.

All children have immature skeletons, as their bones do not mature until they get 14 – 22 years of age.  With girls, exercise during childhood can have very critical effects on bone health that can last for their entire lives.

Children are often times vulnerable to growth related overuse injuries such as Osgood Schlatter disease.  Children have immature temperature regulation systems due to their having a large surface area compared to their muscle mass, which will cause them to be more susceptible to injury when they are not properly warmed up.

Children do not sweat as much as adults do, so they will be more susceptible to heat exhaustion as well as a heat stroke.  Due to their low muscle mass and immature hormone system, it makes it harder for them to develop strength and speed. Their breathing and heart response during exercise are also different from adults, which will affect their capacity for exercise.

On the other hand, young boys and girls can drastically improve their strength with weight training although opposed to adults; neurological factors instead of muscle growth factors are mostly responsible.

When you consider programs for children, first you should obtain a medical clearance.  The first approach to designing a program is to establish a repetition range of 8 – 12 and keep the workload appropriate for the range.

You should ensure that workouts are spread out enough to have at least 1 – 2 full days of rest between workouts. The focus when working out should be on the form of every exercise performed, and not on the amount of weight being lifted.

Before weight training, warm up and stretching should be done.  Start your children off with light loads and then make adjustments accordingly.  No more than three non-consecutive exercise sessions should be done in a week.  You should also see to it that they drink plenty of water before, during, and after exercise.  Getting enough water is very important with exercise, as it is often times very easy to get dehydrated – especially with children.

Back-To-Back Winners for the First Time Ever in the Fab 5 Tournament

Over the weekend a group of bowlers from the Odyssey Fun Center Wednesday Misfits league became the first-ever team to repeat as champions in the Fab 5 tournament held this past Saturday.

The team of Duane WerdeoSherri Alfson,Shannon AlfsonJosh Bowen and Aaron Wulff got hot at the right time and capped off a consistent evening with a 458 – 453 win over Team Meyer.  The win was worth $500.

Click here to view a copy of the playoff bracket.

For Team Meyer it was a tough loss.  With a huge late rally, strikes by Chris Meifert and Bryan Schnettler, they put team captain Jeff Meyer in the position that if he struck the first shot in the 10th frame, they would be victorious.  A pesky 10-pin made them fall just 5 pins short of the championship.  They received $400 for their runner-up finish.  Click here to view the prize listing.

In other playoff action:

Round of 8

  • #8 Team Gmach upset #1 Team Bender 422-411
  • #4 Team Bowen defeated #5 Team Paul 419 – 401
  • #3 Team Meyer defeated #6 Team Richter 455-420
  • #7 Team Party Animals upset #2 Team Gloede

In the One-Shot-Pot game, Amy MeifertBen Cleveland and Arne Weinfurter all made good attempts at winning the jackpot, but in the endShelly Hamus called a 9-count and left a 10-pin standing to win the $285 pot.

.

In the drawing for a Roto Grip Bowling ball, Mike Charaus won what is believed to be his 3rdbowling ball.  Mike also won the Roto Grip Player of the year competition.

This year's Roto Grip Bowler of the Year goes to Aaron Cleveland.

Going into the final event, Aaron needed a solid showing to stay ahead of Mike Walters and Ben Cleveland.

When Ben and Aaron both did not make the cut to the playoffs, Mike was the final player who had a chance to pass Aaron.  With a 2nd place finish by Mike, we would have had a tie for Bowler of the Year, or with a win he would have the Championship outright.

Mike’s team finished tied for 5th and he settled for second place in the competition.
